Moscow, International Exhibition Center “Crocus-Expo”
Conference “Commercial Use of Non-Traditional Methane Resources (Including Agricultural and Forestry Residues)” was held within the framework of 6th International Exhibition Trade Fair on waste management and environmental technologies “WasteTech-2009” on 26th-27th of May 2009 at the International Exhibition Center “Crocus-Expo”, Moscow. The conference was organised by Federal Agency for Science and Innovation, Federal Supervisory Service for Natural Resources Management of the Russian Federation, Non-commercial Partnership “INCOT”, “SIBICO International”, Autonomous non-commercial organisation “RUSDEM-Energy Efficiency”.
Leading Russian experts on alternative methane resources management and representatives of International Energy Agency, International Partnership “Methane to Markets”, US Environment Protection Agency took part in the conference.
At the conference several issues were considered: methane commercial use in consideration of GHG emission reduction and climate change; problems and perspectives for implementing projects on coal bed methane and its utilization; energy potential of biomass (including agricultural and forestry residues) and also several questions on practical methane use from SDW landfills (landfill gas).
International experience (accumulated in the frameworks of International Energy Agency and international partnership “Methane-to-Markets” joint projects) on non-traditional methane resources application in the different branches of economy was represented as well.
Methane emissions from anthropogenic sources were considered as environmental safety issues in their connection with GHG emission reduction. Commercially profitable projects on methane extraction, utilization and useful management were represented at the conference. Participants of the conference were acquainted with international experience in implementing projects on non-traditional methane resources and non-food biomass. A wide range of business meetings and negotiations have been conducted.
